2007 Alumni Picnic Recap

I would like to thank all of the people who attended Saturday’s Morehouse alumni picnic.  All of the alums, prospective students, rising freshmen, current Morehouse students, parents and families had a great time.  Special thanks go to Brother David Ferguson and his wife Darlene for opening their community club house to us.  Also Brother Elijah Watson went above and beyond setting up food and refreshments for the group.

We had music, food and fellowship but the highlight of the evening was the Q&A session facilitated by three current Morehouse students.  Commanding full attention of all in the room, each young man gave inspiring testimony about their Morehouse experience.  They talked about going to China for spring tour, the Olive Branch ceremony, internships, parties, Spelman, the good things and pitfalls to avoid.

The event was so well received that we have been fielding a steady flow of complimentary email from parents and students alike.  The feedback moved me to send a press release to about 20 local and Morehouse-specific media outlets.

It is possible that the Charlotte Observer, the Charlotte Post and perhaps Pride Magazine will follow up with a story but the important thing is that in one fairly simple event we accomplished many of goals associated with our group's mission; promote the college, the local community and support each other.  Let's build off the success of this event and recommit ourselves to supporting the chapter. Great job team!
